Fortnightly Review - Weeks 23 & 24

It has been a crappy fortnight. My hip and back have been bothering me, my mental health is as bad as it has been for a decade, I am somehow 8kg overweight, I am not sleeping or eating properly (how am I up another 5kg when I am missing meals?), I finished my job (internal transfer at the same company, but with no new project to go to), the final bits of my extension work got delayed again, and again, I crashed my hardtail mountain bike and bent the wheel so badly that 3 hours of work later I still couldn't turn it without rubbing on the frame on both sides ...

Buckling the rear wheel on my hardtail mountain bike cost me a lot of bike miles. As well as the lost miles from that ride it is the bike I have been using to go rack up miles whilst going to the pool. My commuter bike is set up on the turbo, my road bike is much too expensive to risk leaving outside the pool if I used it to commute there and back, my full suspension mountain bike and my TT bike are both in storage, and my new mountain bike still isn't ordered as I wait for the last of the bills for my extension. The bent wheel also cost me 7 run miles as I missed a hill run with friends while I pushed and carried the broken bike for 4 miles back to the car.

ITU Almere is now cancelled, and the 2022 World Age-Groups will be held in Townsville, Australia. I can't justify 4 flights each way and going to the other side of the planet for a less than 40 minute race. So I will effectively now miss at least 3 years of World Championships to Covid on top of they year I missed from my divorce.

For now the European Cross Tri and Cross Duathlon are still on in Italy in September, but it feels like just a matter of time until they are cancelled as well.

I did some swimming, but lots of it was junk and one session I had to quit after 475m due to cramp. I did some cycling, but only half what I should have. And I still did too many run miles, but missed a few days and every single run was slow.

I got my new mtb wheel and it is installed but not yet ridden. At least that should take the excuse out of the missed bike miles from commuting to the pool. I am down for my first outdoor swim of the year next Tuesday.
