Fortnightly Review - Weeks 27 & 28

I had my second Covid jab, went to visit my Granny, ate dinner, did a short bike ride, went to club swimming, swam well, slept, went swimming, swam slowly and felt a bit tired, had breakfast, got to my desk ... and then someone ran me over with a steam-roller. I swear I have never felt so ill, so suddenly and been in so much all-over pain in my entire life, and I have had multiple emergency trips to hospital with broken bones. I went through a dangerous amount of paracetamol and lost 4kg over the next 30 hours as I tried to fight what the vaccinators claimed would be 'mild flu-like symptoms'.

And then it magically went away again. Almost as fast as it had come on. I managed to get out on the bike that day, but only because the TdF were on their TT day and I only had to ride round the block for my 10% that day. I have managed to keep my 10% TdF challenge up throughout, and used their rest day to do the session I missed when I was in my bed. Obviously this has smashed my planned bike miles. Because a lot of the days were around 10-12 miles I also managed to get some of them on the mountain bike, including riding from my house out and over Kirkhill to get to the pool.

A handful of missed run days as I recovered from the effects of my vaccine and the fatigue of my 10% Tour challenge means this is the first fortnight that I have missed my run mile target since December 2019. I went to read my own blog to understand why that week was so bad but that was at a time where I wasn't coping so the details aren't there.

I was struggling then with being alone, and that was only 3 months before Covid was set to take over the world and turn that into a semi-permanent, or potentially permanent, state. Back then I thought it was notable that I hadn't talked properly to another human for a few days. Nowadays it is completely normal for a whole week to go by where the longest conversation I will have is asking which van I am driving on a Sunday afternoon.

One of my cancelled events from Almere has been resurrected, but moved to Spain in October. I am still in two minds about whether to go. I still haven't arranged a new bike and I am getting a bit tighter for money than I would like if I am going to get a new bike and do trips to both Italy and Spain this year. I also don't really want to go on my own.
